Vadim Gippenreiter is the foremost Russian nature photographer, with dozens of books to his credit. His early works were published in Soviet times, but reproduction quality was poor. Gipenreiter traveled all over Kamchatka to record its beauty with his large format camera in the 1970's, but the Soviet version of the book was disappointing. He returned to Kamchatka after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 with noted American photographer Robert Perkins, and together they re-captured the dramatic scenery of this volcanic wonderland. Gippenreiter's earlier photographs were reprinted in high-quality color "coffee-table" format and document the spectacular 1975 eruption of Bolshoi Tolbatchik volcano, ice-covered active volcanoes, animals, flowers and seascapes. Over 100 full-color photographs - many spread over two pages make this the foremost view of Kamchatka's unique and unspoiled wildness.
Readership: Nature lovers and admirers of volcanic landscapes -- especially those wishing an introduction to Kamchatka's volcanoes and natural beauty. |
