This is the first book ever written entirely about Mauna Loa, the largest
volcano on Earth. Mike Rhodes and I edited this book as a collection of
scientific papers to describe what is presently known about this most
beautiful volcano. The 20 papers in this volume focus mainly
on eruptive history, geophysics, petrology, and volcanic
hazards, but also describe the fascinating human history of the Mauna
Loa's exploration, as well as the volcano's biological significance and
the nature of her submarine flanks. This is not a book for casual
readers, but is an essential reference for volcanologists.
Readership: Scientists and advanced students interested in the origin and nature of the world's most beautiful volcano (well - that's the debatable perspective of a biased Mauna Loa aficionado!)
